Manikarnika -The Queen of Jhansi, which released to a great response from audiences and mixed reviews, collected INR 42.55 crores in India and crossed USD 1.55 million in overseas markets. The film has been riddled with controversies galore but that hasn't affected its box office performance. 

Manikarnika was mounted on an epic scale, not just in terms of production quality but also its high-impact marketing campaign. The movie also got the biggest ever mainstream release seen by any woman-led film in recent times. According to box office pundits, the film took a good start on Friday and doubled its collections on Saturday and held strong on Sunday.

This period drama, starring Kangana Ranaut, also benefitted from positive word-of-mouth promotions. It earned INR 8.75 crore on the opening day (Friday, January 26 and Thursday, January 25 in the UAE). And on the second day, it minted INR 18.10 crore. Its third-day collection was INR 15.70 crore.

The film is seeing a good turnout in its box office collection despite the stiff competition with Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thackeray, based on the life of late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray as well as Uri: The Surgical Strike that is still going strong. The patriotic fervour during the Republic Day release has also helped the movie garner great collections. 

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai, one of the key leaders in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. It released in over 3000 screens in India and over 700 screens worldwide in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Can it reach the 100-crore club? Watch this space.
