Kalki Koechlin Believes that a Key to a Good Film is a Good Script
Kalki Koechlin shared that while she researches her role extensively before diving into a project, it’s also important to evaluate how good a script is
Kalki Koechlin is one of the finest actresses in Bollywood. She started her acting career in 2009 with Dev D and later starred in some of the biggest hit films such as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani amongst many others. She was also a part of Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy – India’s selection for the Oscar nominations this year and had a major role to play in the second season of Sacred Games, which released in summer this year. But being a part of numerous projects comes with its own share of homework and Kalki believes in researching before choosing a project.
In a recent interview during the recently held Jio MAMI Film Festival, Kalki shared that she does a lot of research instead of diving head first into a project. She said, “Great scripts are the ones that make great movies. I feel research about the subject matter of the film is so important to understand the nuances of the role. Whenever I read a script, I immediately want to learn more about the subject and I, sometimes, Google to find as much information available as possible. Understanding the context is as important as the role itself.”

Relieved I can let that bump hang free after months of stuffing it into costumes which fit me at the beginning of shoot schedules in July but were not so easy to zip up by mid September! And kudos to my style saviours @who_wore_what_when for coming up with innovative ways to cover it up! While conducting a masterclass with Franklin Leonard - founder of The Black List fame – at the film festival, Kalki also spoke about scriptwriting, filmmaking and the future of Indian cinema in Hollywood. She also discussed the popularity of franchise movies over independent films. “There is always a danger of stereotyping and the flattening of creativity that comes with franchising of films but that can be battled with good scripts,” she concluded. The actress is currently taking some time off of work. She is six months pregnant and looks gorgeous in all the photo shoots she’s been a part of throughout her pregnancy.
