Kalank is Karan Johar’s magnum opus and the one thing you can be sure of when you decide to buy a ticket to a Karan Johar film is that you’ll get gorgeous people in gorgeous surroundings.
Cinema, many times, is pure escapism to many of us. Kalank is no different. Alia Bhatt is poor but she wears gorgeous dresses. Varun Dhawan is a street child but you could play the drums on his abs. Everything is just impossibly gorgeous and that is what I love about the Karan Johar experience.
Here are five reasons why I loved Kalank.
1. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt’s performances
Alia Bhatt’s performance as Roop was a very powerful one. She played a girl from a poor home who gets married to a rich man who doesn’t love her. Her performance in the climax is heart-rending and you can’t help but fall in love with this gorgeous girl.
2. Madhuri Dixit Nene’s 'Tabaah Ho Gaye'!
Madhuri Dixit Nene is a dancing legend and if she’s dancing on the big screen, that is enough reason to go watch the film.
3. The stunning cinematography
Binod Pradhan has worked on gorgeous period-based films such as 1942 A Love Story and Devdas. He has also worked on Rang De Basanti, Mission Kashmir, and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. Kalank’s cinematography is what makes Kalank an immersive cinematic experience.
4. The music.
The soundtrack is given by Pritam and the lyrics are written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. 'First Class' is a super dance worthy song.
5. The clothes!
Whether it is Sanjay Dutt’s shawls or Alia Bhatt’s ghararas. The whole film is going to set you for the next shadi season.
