The third installment of John Wick series just hit the theaters – and fourth film is already is in the making. Just days after the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, entertainment company Lionsgate behind the action franchise announced that Reeves would return in the fourth installment. John Wick 4 is slated for release in the United States cinemas on May 21, 2021. It is the second title to land on May 21, 2021 – the movie joins Warner Bros.’ “DC Super Pets” on the date.
The move comes obviously after the huge worldwide success at the box office. The movie even left behind Marvel’s star-studded Avengers: Endgame at the box office. Chapter 3 opened above expectations with $57 million in its opening weekend – surpassing its predecessors’ records. The 2014 debut of the Keanu Reeves action franchise had collected $14.4 million and 2017’s Chapter 2 garnered $30.4 million.
John Wick: Chapter 3 has also hit franchise record overseas by collecting $35 million from around 66 international markets for a global start of $92 million. The Hollywood Reporter reports that a text message was sent to fans of the latest film, stating: "You have served. You will be of service. John Wick: Chapter 4 is coming - May 21, 2021".
The producers are yet to confirm who will be directing the fourth movie but rumour mill says Chad Stahelski will probably take on the duty. He has directed the first three installments. No plot details have been leaked so far. In Parabellum, Reeves returns as the ex-hitman who finds himself on the run from assassins with a $14 million bounty on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. The movie is directed by stuntman-truned-director Chad Stahelski and written by series-creator Darek Kolstad. The film also features Halle Berry and Laurence Fisburne.
