Actors Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s upcoming film was earlier titled 'Rooh Afza', named after the rose-flavoured drink that has been in the market for decades. The name, however, didn’t sit too well with the makers of the beverage, who slammed the use of their brand name being used for a horror comedy. Following this, producers Dinesh Vijan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba have now changed the name to 'RoohiAfza', adding the letter ‘I’ in between the two words. “The drink is famous and manufactured in India and Pakistan. The founder Hakim Abul Majid’s son migrated to Pakistan after Partition and started his own brand there too under the same name,” revealed a trade analyst, requesting anonymity.
The insider continued, “It is registered as an unani medicine by the company Hamdard. It has been in India since 1907 and just like how Zandu Balm took offence to their brand name being used in 'Dabangg', the owners of Rooh Afza too had a problem. Hence the title is now 'RoohiAfza'.” Speaking about the film, Dinesh earlier said, "For ‘RoohiAfza’, we needed actors who could jump into their roles with unabashed conviction. Rajkummar and Varun Sharma are phenomenal actors and comedy is a space they excel in and own.”
The daughter of late yesteryear icon Sridevi, will be essaying a double role – Roohi and Afsana – in the film, which will go on floors in June this year. "For the female lead, we needed someone who could portray two contrasting personalities with ease and Janhvi stood out. She really connected with the script,'' said Dinesh. ‘RoohiAfza’ is slated for release on March 20, 2020. The film is directed by Hardik Mehta. Janhvi kicked off her career with the film 'Dhadak' where she appeared alongside Shahid Kapoor’s younger brother, Ishaan Khattar and also bagged the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut in 2019 for her role in the film.
