Jabariya Jodi (Forced Couple) is an upcoming Indian romcom starring Sidharth Malhotra as Abhay Singh and Parineeta Chopra as Badli Yadav. It is based on Pakadwa Vivah (groom kidnappings) in Bihar, which occur quite frequently to avoid dowry claims from the groom’s family.

Sidharth introduced the film by sharing posters on social media with the caption: "Here are Abhay and Babli, an anokhi and desi jodi."

In the film, Siddharth plays a thug who helps kidnap grooms. While speaking to the media at the wrap-up party of Jabariya Jodi in April 2019, the actor said, “I think I haven't played this kind of role earlier in my career and for Pari (Parineeti Chopra) also, it's a different world and different role. We are really excited for the film and that's why we are celebrating with a wrap-up party of the film. The entire crew has worked really hard on this film and hopefully soon, in a month or two, we might release some content of the film.”

The film has been written by Sanjeev K Jha, who is from Bihar and thus familiar with the practice of groom kidnappings and forced marriages. Co-produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor and Shailesh R Singh, the film has been directed by Prashant Singh.

During the wrap-up party, Parineeti spoke about learning the Bihari dialect for the film: "I think the good thing was that our director knows that world really well and in his Hindi also, there is a little bit flavour of Patna. So, it was really easy for me and Sidharth (Malhotra) because we used to follow Prashant blindly.”

The film was scheduled for release on 12th July but to avoid clash with Super 30 and Mental Hai Kya, a new date has been announced and it is expected to hit the theatres on 2nd August 2019.
