Syed Shujat, 34, always had an interest in modelling and acting, right from his school and college days and it was perhaps natural for him to take up a career in the glamour field. Over the last few years, Syed has been a regular on Dubai’s modelling scene having worked on ad campaigns and films. Some of his prominent campaigns include ads for Samsung, OLX, Vaseline, Toyota, Etisalat, Huawei and Dubai Tourism. Ads aside, he has also made appearances in big budget movies like Fast and the Furious and Tiger Zinda Hai.
“The experience of Tiger Zinda Hai was exhilarating. Though we were shooting in 50 degrees heat, we enjoyed every bit of it. It was a great experience working for Yash Raj productions. I also got to do some scenes with Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Paresh Rawal,” says Syed who had a tiny appearance with Shah Rukh Khan in the Dubai Tourism campaign as one of the tourists in the Dubai Mall aquarium scene.
However, away from ads and movies, Syed also has a passion for costume designing and has spent his time trying to recreate various looks for movies and events. Like the rest of the country, he was fascinated by Ranveer Singh’s get-up in Padmaavat as Alauddin Khilji and recently decided to recreate it for a shoot (featuring himself of course!)
The results are there to see. Syed worked on every single element and did a near-exact reproduction of the clothes, jewels, scar, wig and expression!
“I always pick up characters that are eye-catching for the audience or have a good fan following. I also especially go for characters that suit my personality and what I can carry well. Also someone really close to my heart motivated me particularly to go for this costume as it suits my personality,” he explains.
Syed says it took him a day and a half to complete the costume. “I collected a lot of reference images of the character and based on that, I started buying materials, most of them from Sattwa. I used fake fur for the hood and made a velvet cape. I then made the headgear with some cloth pieces and the crown with cardboard, different gems, fancy fabrics and hot glue,” he adds. The most difficult part of the look was the one with weapons as every time he did an action scene, something or the other would fall off.”
And, here’s what he looks like in real life:
The pics that have been shot by Rabea Natasha, have been doing the rounds of social media the effort that has gone into it is commendable. Quite a tribute to Ranveer Singh and Alauddin Khilji, what say!
