Episode 14 is one of those episodes that both convey a lot to the audience, but also moves along at a snail’s pace. Leaning more towards the sluggish side, episode 14 is less action-packed than past episodes. That being said, Inkaar is always high on the emotional content, written with heart-touching dialogues and incredible acting.
A couple of important events occurred in this episode. First and most importantly, Gullu Badmaash discovers the truth behind what happened with Hajra and shows his support in the most important of ways – he has Hajra’s case registered at the station and declares his support to Hafiz Ilyas. One can already imagine the important role Gullu Badmaash will play in Hajra’s fight for justice. While Hafiz Ilyas has been silently fighting for his daughter, knowing Gullu Badmaash is in his corner somehow makes the anxiety lift, as he has help and support.
Rehan Chaudhry (Imran Ashraf), knowing now that he’s to be arrested, approaches Hafiz Ilyas and Hajra in the hospital and begs Ilyas to give Hajra’s hand in his for marriage. Hearing these words, Hajra (Yumna Zaidi) is incredulous, as is her father. This scene particularly shows the way Rehan’s mind works. He is unable to register his crime in an empathetic or apologetic way, but he believes he still deserves Hajra – such characters are able to instill fear in viewers, if only because they do not follow social norms or behaviors.
We also see Hajra and Shayan discussing the future of their relationship – and things look bleak. Hajra is unable to move past Shayan’s mistrust and declares that her battle against Rehan is one that she must fight alone, as she no longer wants to rely on anyone else other than her father.
Coming to performances, Imran Ashraf can do no wrong and his performance in impeccable. Yumna Zaidi is a gem of an actress and, of course, Sami Khan is always reliable to deliver an exceptional performance. That being said, there is one true stand-out performance in this show. I have said it before, but dare I say it again – Rehan Sheikh as Hafiz Ilyas is an absolute prize. This is an incredibly talented actor immersing himself in a role that is the backbone of the show. Hafiz Ilyas is an ideal father – loving, supportive, protective and, most of all, trusting. He’s fiercely loyal to his daughter, standing in the way of anyone that tries to harm her, physically or emotionally. While her world is in turmoil, he protects her and tries to deal with how to proceed in a way that’s best for his daughter. Hafiz Ilyas is a cuddly teddy bear and has evolved into a character that’s almost universally loved by drama viewers.
While the proceedings have been interesting in the past few episodes, this viewer is ready to see Hajra leave that hospital bed and begin her fight against Rehan Chaudhry.
