When you reside in Dubai, more often than not, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to glorious food. And during Ramadan, one tends to look forward to those special delicacies which remind us of home and the families we have left behind. It is said that the love of a home-cooked meal can warm your heart for many days. The special Iftar meal at Zafran, Marina Mall took us right back to our childhood, rekindling a sense of longing and fulfilment with the hearty aroma of their food!
A elaborate menu of dal shorba, a selection of kebabs and flavoursome curries awaited us as we sat down to break the fast with a cooling drink served with an assortment of fresh fruits and dates. A light soup of lentils favoured with lemon, cumin and coriander was just rightly balanced and revved up our appetite for the other delicacies in the menu.
While I chose the vegetarian menu, my friend decided to opt for the meaty fare. The assortment of beautifully presented vegetarian starters of Aloo Tikkia, Batter-fried Double Mushroom and the Pudina Paneer Tikka were delectable. In the non-veg selection, the grilled white fish with a mustardy zest was absolutely divine!
The meal was as delightful as it was nostalgic for us! No Indian meal is complete without an accompaniment steamed rice and a selection of hot flatbreads like Naan and Lacha Parathas. A succulent Chicken Tikka Masala, Palak Paneer and a bowl of aromatic, silky Daal Bukhari full of earthy goodness consisted of our mains.
Thats not all, there is dessert too! The golden syrupy Gulab Jamuns and Rabdi offer the perfect sweet finale. Reasonably priced at Dhs89 per person, the Iftar menu at Zafran is a definite must-try!
