‘I Have Never Had a Problem Getting Male Attention’: Huma Qureshi
Huma Qureshi slams Bollywood for being obsessed about looks and fashion of actresses
Do you think that Bollywood is all about looks and style? Do you feel the fashion police is unduly harsh on actresses, focusing on what they wear and how they look? You are not alone. Huma Qureshi, who has often been criticised for her fashion in magazines and websites, too feels that sexist Bollywood pays too much attention to an actress’ looks.
In an interview to HT, the outspoken actress says that the industry should accept that a woman may look great on certain days and not-so-lovely on others. “My mother always said, ‘Your problems and thoughts are yours and other people’s problems and thoughts are theirs. Aapne kisi ke thoughts ko badalne ka theka nahin le rakha’. (You haven’t taken the responsibility of changing others’ opinions). So, one should know what they want to do with their life. You must be happy in every moment — it might touch other people’s hearts and make them smile,” she said, insisting that she is not a slave to social media.
The Dedh Ishqiya actor added that the expectations are higher from girls. “My male friends don’t always have to do their hair and makeup. I’m often told to make my airport looks stylish, and I’m like ‘airport par kaun heels pehenta hai’?” (Who wear heels at airports?)
Huma also said that she didn’t care about how she looked as long as she felt happy within. “Whether I’m putting up a picture of an egg or doing something funny, I don’t care if I’m wearing makeup or not. I’m very happy with how I look. I never had any problem in getting work or male attention,” she
