A few months ago, actor Ayushmann Khurrana and his wife, filmmaker Tahira Kashyap were left devastated when it was revealed that Tahira had been diagnosed with Stage 1 cancer. However, the couple decided to fight it bravely and ever since, they have been giving interviews and setting an example of how to face the aftermath without getting bogged down. Tahira in particular has been using her social media to spread the message of body positivity and good health.  A few days ago, she even walked the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week.

Today is my day! Wish you all a happy #worldcancerday and hope each one of us celebrates this day in an embracing way. That we remove any stigma or taboo associated with it. That we spread awareness about it and that we have self love no matter what. I truly embrace all my scars as they are my badges of honour. There is nothing known as perfect. Happiness lies in truly accepting yourself. This was a tough one for me. But this picture was my decision as I want to celebrate not the disease but the spirit with which I endured. To quote my mentor, Diasaku Ikeda, “Leading an undefeated life is eternal victory. Not being defeated, never giving up, is actually a greater victory than winning, not being defeated means having the courage to rise to the challenge. However many times we’re knocked down, the important thing is we keep getting up and taking one step-even a half step- forward” #worldcancerday #breastcancerawareness #breastcancerwarrior #turningkarmaintomission #boddhisatva Thanks @atulkasbekar for this one

Now, on the occasion of World Cancer Day, Tahira has done what few women have dared to, before. She has posted a photo of her bare back with a prominent scar on it. The picture, shot by noted fashion photographer Atul Kasbekar has Tahira, dressed in a sharp denim and looking marvellously fit, as she shows her back to the camera. There couldn’t have been a stronger message than that about accepting and embracing scars.

Her inspiring post alongside the image read:

“Today is my day! Wish you all a happy #worldcancerday and hope each one of us celebrates this day in an embracing way. That we remove any stigma or taboo associated with it. Over the last few months, Tahira has been setting goals in body positivity and courage. Read what she wrote when she walked the ramp for LFW.

A few weeks ago, she made light of the fact that she had to chop off her tresses and go bald as part of the treatment.

Needless to say, Tahira’s brave stance and her message has been lauded by social media.
