Not so long ago, the war between Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut, dominated news headlines. The duo had much to say about each other especially Kangana who went hammer and tongs against Hrithik, who she alleged dated her in the past. The rivalry then shifted to the professional realm with Kangana’s Manikarnika supposed to clash with Hrithik’s Super 30. Both films were scheduled for release in January 2019. But as it turned out, only Kangana could stick to the release date while Hrithik was forced to move his film since work on it was not over.
However, it seems the clash between the stars can’t be avoided. Now, another Kangana, film Mental Hai Kya in which she co-stars with Rajkummar Rao is scheduled for release on the same day as Super 30. Yes, both films will now hit the theatres on July 26. Earlier, Mental Hai Kya was slated to release in May. Predictably, the media went berserk with the eventuality of yet another showdown. However, now, in a press release Ekta Kapoor – the producer of Mental Hai Kya – has stated categorically that the shift in release date was purely a strategic decision. Read her statement.
A lot is being reported about 'Mental Hai Kya' clashing with another film at the box office on July 26. The shift in the release date is a decision taken after the recommendations from the distributors, trade analysts and top research team, keeping in mind the releases a week before and after this date. We have been advised to shift the release of our movie to July 26, purely for the business prospects.
On knowing, that there is already a movie scheduled for a release on that date, we did it all in our purview to ensure that there will be no mud-slinging and it will be dignified release. We stand by assuring that to all other parties.
This is a call taken by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures considering better prospects for the movie at the box office and no other parties were involved.
Balaji Telefilms condemn the reports being circulated and stand by that 'Mental Hai Kya' releasing on 26th July is purely a business decision made by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms.
