How To Get Away With Murder (HTGAWM) fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the show has been renewed for Season 6 by ABC Studios.
The show’s fate was uncertain as Season 5 received lower ratings than the previous seasons. This mystery-thriller-legal drama, which premiered in 2014, is about a brilliant, badass Philadelphia law professor, Annalise Keating, played by Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis, who teaches at a prestigious university and has a great record of winning difficult cases.
In a recent interview with CNN, Viola said that Annalise is ‘the most misunderstood woman on television’ and that she wanted to continue playing this interesting character in the sixth season.
The show’s cast also includes Alfred Enoch, Billy Brown, Katie Findlay, Matt McGorry, Liza Weil, Aja Naomi King, Karla Souza, Jack Falahee, Charlie Weber, Conrad Ricamora, Rome Flynn, Amirah Vann and Timothy Hutton. Its main plot revolves around how Annalise and five of her star students get entangled in several murders and have to deal with some dark secrets, as the series progresses.
Despite lower ratings of the 5th season, HTGAWM still has a devoted fan following waiting for the next installment. Witnessing a total of 26 murders has kept the audience on the edge of their seats throughout the five seasons.
The fifth season ended on a cliffhanger, as Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza) went missing. There are also several other loose ends that need to be tied up in the next season. This is likely to be released in the last week of September.
How To Get Away With Murder has won several awards. In 2015, Viola Davis won an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Drama, becoming the first woman of colour to win in that category.
