Fifteen years ago, Karisma Kapoor is the woman Abhishek Bachchan was to marry. They had a beautiful relationship which was the talk of the town. Their courtship and engagement came to a sudden and bitter end just a few months before their marriage, leaving both the families exceedingly embittered. While the media speculated on the reasons, the Kapoors and Bachchans themselves kept a dignified silence. Even the otherwise affable diplomatic and benign-spirited patriarch of the Bachchan family was so hurt with the turn of events that he refused to work with Kareena Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black. The film was eventually made with Rani Mukerji.
However, time healed the wounds and everyone moved on. While Abhishek got married to the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai, Karisma tied the knot with Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapur though unfortunately, the marriage didn’t work out. Much water has flown under that proverbial bridge. And recently the industry saw a new surprise and pleasant bonding. Karisma attended Abhishek’s sister Shweta’s launch of her brand MxS in Mumbai last week and the two ladies were seen bonding beautifully. It wasn’t just for the camera. “There was a sincere affection between them,” says an invitee at the event. “For years no members of the Bachchan family spoke, let alone socialised with Karisma. Shweta has rightly broken the ice. You can’t hold grudges in life forever.”
