Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4, directed by Farhad Samji, is still going strong at the box office, as per the latest estimates and reports. The film has, by its second Friday, earned up to INR 150 crore and impacted the opening of new release Sunny Singh-starrer Ujda Chaman, which collected only INR 1.75 crore on its opening day (Friday, 1st November). Housefull 4, which was released on 25th October, has been doing quite well post-Diwali (Monday onwards) with full occupancy reported in mass centres and single screens.
It earned between INR 7.75-8 crore on its eighth day, which means it has seen the best second Friday of the year after Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh. The Gujarat/Saurashtra circuit is leading the way. The film has also done quite well in the northern and central circuits in India, and collected $1.29 million in the United States and $304k in Australia.
The film has done well despite its clash with Rajkummar Rao's Made In China and Taapsee Pannu-Bhumi Pednekar's Saand Ki Aankh, which were released on the same day.
There has been some controversy surrounding Housefull 4’s box office numbers as the comedy film has received many negative reviews from critics, who have called it ‘mildly funny’ and said it has ‘forgettable slapstick humour’. A few recent news reports have suggested that the numbers have been exaggerated by the filmmakers to attract more audiences to the theatres. However, Akshay Kumar has now responded to these allegations saying the producer, Fox Studios, has a lot of credibility and would not lie about this.
Housefull 4 - a reincarnation comedy film set in 1419 Sittamgarh and 2019 London - has an ensemble star cast which includes Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. This is the fourth installment of the hit comedy franchise, with all the previous Housefull films starring Akshay Kumar.
