Wednesday Season 2: DYK Emma Myers helped Jenna Ortega get into K-pop vibe for the viral ‘Boombayah’ scene? – Here’s how

Who would’ve guessed Wednesday Addams is secretly a BLINK? Jenna Ortega’s unexpected dance to BLACKPINK’s smash hit Boombayah in the opening of Episode 6 of the Netflix series has taken the internet by storm. Clips of the moment are flooding timelines as fans of both the show and the K-pop superstars can’t get enough.

In the viral sequence, Boombayah sets the beat as Wednesday trades her signature dark, brooding presence for a burst of colour and movement. Storming into Nevermore’s courtyard, she breaks into choreography that leaves both her classmates and the audience completely stunned.

Emma Myers helped Jenna Ortega prepare for the viral scene

No one could have predicted BLACKPINK’s surprise crossover into the world of Wednesday, but according to Jenna Ortega’s co-star Emma Myers, she played a small part in shaping the viral dance moment featured in Wednesday Season 2, Part 2, which dropped on September 3.

Emma, who brings to life Enid Sinclair, Wednesday’s werewolf roommate at Nevermore, told MTV UK, “I did not recommend the song. I’ve had a lot of people ask me, ‘Oh, you must have had the K Pop influence’. I have no say in what happens in the editing room at all, but I thought that’s a great dance song for Enid. I was not on set to see Jenna do that, but I actually I hadn’t choreographed it. But I did send her a bunch of videos of how Enid would dance, and I think she pulled what she wanted from all those videos. So I let her do her thing.”

About BLACKPINK’s song Boombayah

“Boombayah” comes from BLACKPINK’s debut single album Square One, which dropped on August 8, 2016. The four-member powerhouse — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — quickly rose to K-pop royalty in the years that followed, and nearly a decade later, the track remains a staple in their live performances. It also marked a major milestone as BLACKPINK’s very first No. 1 on the US Billboard World Digital Songs chart.
