Dr Amie Harwick, 38, a well-known marriage and family therapist in Hollywood, was murdered in Los Angeles on Saturday. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Hollywood patrol officers responded to a woman screaming in Hollywood Hills. Amie’s roommate, who had run away from their house, met the officers on the street and informed them that Amie was being assaulted. They eventually found her seriously injured and lying on the ground below a balcony on the third storey. She was rushed to the hospital but passed away soon after. The police have arrested Gareth Pursehouse, 41, who Amie had recently broken up with, on suspicion of murder. Amie had filed a restraining order against him.

Amie was a former Playboy model appeared in a 2015 documentary titled Addicted to Sexting. She was previously engaged to American actor and comedian Drew Carey but split up with him in 2018. Several members of the Hollywood film fraternity, including her patients, took to Twitter to express their shock and anger at her murder.

Actress Jasmin St Claire tweeted, “RIP #AmieHarwick… Im in shock a friend from 16 years ago was murdered by her ex! This is why I don't believe in restraining orders...We were suppossed to have lunch next week..I hope the creep gets thrown away for life!!!! She was so smart & talented.”

Emily Sears wrote, “I was so saddened to receive this news today. Dr Amie Harwick was my therapist. Her work changed my life. It’s truly heartbreaking that she passionately dedicated her life helping others heal from trauma and live freely. This shouldn’t have happened to her.”

Lex Jurgen said, “#AmieHarwick’s murder is tragic. Creepy abusive stalkers exes can't ever be legally restrained or even physically threatened out of their deep narcissistic sociopathy. This is where dad or brother needs to step in and make a certain somebody disappear.”
