Hilary Duff to Return as Lizzie McGuire on a Reboot Series for Disney Plus
Hilary Duff took to her Instagram to announce the return of her popular character on American sitcom, Lizzie McGuire, in a reboot series on Disney Plus.
Lizzie McGuire is an American sitcom that combines live-action with animated sequences. It aired on Disney Channel, between 2001 to 2004, and catered to pre-teen and teen audience. The series is based on the life of an average and clumsy 13-year old girl, played by Hilary Duff, and her animated alter-ego. Now Hilary Duff has just announced on her Instagram page that she will be returning as Lizzie McGuire. Sharing a video compilation of moments from the original show, Hilary wrote, “SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl...and into her 30’s.”
The reboot series will follow the life of Lizzie as a 30-year old millennial living in New York City. Hilary shared more details about the character at an event, saying, “The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up. She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now. She’s working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator. She has her dream guy, who owns a cool SoHo restaurant. She has her dream apartment in Brooklyn. And she’s getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday.”
The creator of the original series, Terri Minsky, will also be returning as the showrunner, as confirmed by Disney. The studio’s new streaming service, Disney+, will be launched in the United States, Canada and the Netherlands on 12th November 2019. It will also be launched in Australia and New Zealand during the same month. The service will cost in $6.99 in the US and have similar charges elsewhere.
