Here’s What You Need To Know About The Kangana Ranaut vs Shabana Azmi Feud Over Pulwama
Bollywood actresses Kangana Ranaut and Shabana Azmi seem to have been caught in a war of words about Pulwama Attack.
On February 14th, 2019, a car laden with explosives was rammed into a CPRF convoy by a suicide bomber in Pulwama. Forty nine CPRF soldiers lost their lives and mainstream Bollywood celebrities banded together to express their solidarity and support to the victims.
Kangana Ranaut spoke to Pinkvilla and minced no words. “Pakistan has not only violated our nation’s security they have also attacked our dignity by openly threatening and humiliating us, but we also need to take decisive actions or else our silence will be misunderstood for our cowardice. Bharat is bleeding today, the killing of our sons is like a dagger in our gut, anyone who lectures about non-violence and peace at this time should be painted black, put on a donkey and slapped by everyone on the streets.”
Shabana Azmi cancelled her trip to Karachi, where she and her husband, Javed Akhtar, were invited at an arts’ festival. She told Pinkvilla that she and Javed were invited to the event to attend a commemoration of her father, the poet and activist, Kaifi Azmi. “I appreciate that our hosts have mutually agreed to cancel the event at the nth hour in wake of the Pulwama attack,” said Shabana.
Javed Akhtar also tweeted, “I have a special relation with CRPF. I have written their anthem Before putting the pen to paper I met a number of CRPF officers and whatever I learned my respect admiration and love for these braves increased by many a fold, today I share the grief of the dear ones of the martyrs.

It did not appease Kangana who demanded why Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar were invited and had accepted an invitation from Pakistan in the first place when Pakistani artists were banned after Uri attacks. Kangana threw shade at Shabana Azmi and said that Hindi film industry is ‘full of anti-nationals who boost the enemies’ morals in many ways’. Kangana called for Pakistan’s ‘destruction’.
Shabana Azmi responded to Kangana’s claim and said that a personal attack on her cannot be of any significance as ‘the entire country stands as one in our grief and in condemning this dastardly Pulwama attack’. Azmi added, “May God bless her [Ranaut]”.
