PCOD

Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a common condition caused by the production of immature eggs that can develop into cysts. It is often accompanied by symptoms such as menstrual irregularities, acne, excessive body hair, and obesity. Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain, widely followed for her health tips on Instagram @fries.to.fit, recently addressed the issue in a video, sharing practical ways to reverse PCOD symptoms through lifestyle changes.

High-fiber diet

Deepsikha emphasized the importance of a high-fiber diet in managing PCOD. Foods rich in fibre help stabilize blood sugar levels, regulate insulin resistance, and balance hormones, all of which play a key role in reducing PCOD symptoms. Incorporating whole grains, fruits, and vegetables into daily meals can make a significant difference.

Regular physical activity is another critical factor. Deepsikha highlighted the importance of having a consistent workout routine that includes strength training and cardiovascular exercises. Building muscle and maintaining a lean body mass can positively impact hormonal balance, further helping to alleviate PCOD symptoms.

Add anti-inflammatory foods to the diet

Adding anti-inflammatory foods to the diet is also beneficial. Foods like legumes, nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil, and berries can help manage inflammation and reduce the severity of PCOD symptoms. These nutrient-dense foods promote overall health and support the body in coping with hormonal imbalances.

Importance of balanced nutrition in reversing PCOD

In a related discussion, Dr Ruchita Singh, a gynaecologist at HCL Healthcare, stressed the importance of balanced nutrition in reversing PCOD symptoms. “Focus on a diet rich in whole foods, lean proteins, and vegetables while reducing processed foods and sugars,” she advised. Dr Singh added that combining a nutritious diet with exercise can work wonders. She recommended at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week to improve insulin sensitivity and maintain hormonal health.

By adopting these simple yet effective strategies, individuals can take control of their PCOD symptoms and work towards a healthier, balanced lifestyle. As Deepsikha and experts suggest, a holistic approach is key to managing and reversing the effects of PCOD.
