Harry and Meghan’s Exit from the Royal Family Has Garnered Epic Reactions from Well-Wishers and Haters

While some users have been completely supportive of Harry and Meghan Markle’s unconventional decision, others have come out to slam them for reasons more than one. Check out the reactions

Social media has been abuzz following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s official exit from the British Royal family this week. An influx of mixed emotions and divided opinions from fans and critics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have taken over Twitter, Instagram and other public forums. While some have been completely supportive of the couple’s unconventional decision, others have come out to slam them for reasons more than one. Nevertheless, remaining unfettered by the criticism, Harry’s recent statement was one that tugged at the heartstrings of us all. Harry and Meghan announced that they would be stepping back as senior royals followed by the Buckingham Palace’s statement that the pair will stop carrying out royal duties in the near future.

"The UK is my home and a place that I love," Harry said in a speech at a charity event in London. "That will never change. The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven't always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option,” he stated.

Some well-wishers

Responding to this, one woman tweeted, “I'd leave my entire family for Meghan Markle too if I had the option.” Activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu urged the couple to “go forth and be happy”. Even the Queen's inclusion of warm words for Meghan Markle triggers you. Your petty dislike of Meghan is seriously boring now,” she added slamming haters and initiating the hashtag #LeaveMeghanAlone.

Like Shola, multiple Twitter users said they were pleased the couple will stop using the HRH (His Royal Highness) title. Others, however, seemed to enjoy the “gossip” coming their way, adding they could not wait to see how it would be covered in hit TV series The Crown. Reacting to Harry and Meghan’s shocking exit, the sitcom’s lead actor Helena Bonham Carter posted, "The world is their oyster. It will be very interesting to see now that they're masters of their own destiny.”

Some haters

Broadcaster Piers Morgan came hard at Meghan, adding, “The only thing Meghan’s done quickly to the Royal Family is break them up.” One user seemed to be getting the kick out of the entire Royal family episode. Taunting Harry, he penned, “Prince Harry at his first day at Job: Ah this sucks man.” Meghan and Harry being spotted at The Lion King premier raised eyebrows too. One post read, “OMG!! This is absolutely abhorrent, shameful, rotten to the core! They are literally begging for a low class celeb job despite being a Duke and Duchess of the UK. HAVE THEY NO SHAME!?? OMG, Diana would be crying tears of blood. #Megxit#MeghanMarkle Despicable.”

Another user commented, “For years to come, Meghan Markle will be known as the person who brought down monarchy.”

Meghan back to basics?

The bone of contention amongst several social media users remains whether Meghan will head back to the popular show Suits which made her a household name across the globe prior to her wedding to Harry. While some think so, others beg to differ. A quirky tweet read, “Meghan Markle couldn't have done this a little earlier? In time for a @Suits_USA finale?”

One user even predicted that Meghan will star as herself in The Crown Season 8. Well, how trippy would that be if it actually happened?

Fans of Suits wrote, “We could have had another season of Suits if this decision had been taken earlier. #Meghan #Megxit.”

Words of wisdom following #Megxit

One user listed down everything Harry and Meghan have taught the generations to come. “Meghan and Harry just taught a whole generation of little girls and boys that: 1. Being a prince or princess is overrated. 2. Money and fame don't bring happiness. 3. You should walk away from toxic situations. 4. You should stand up for yourself.”

And of course, some memes!

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth said in her statement, “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family. I recognize the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.”

Some speculated Queen Elizabeth knew Meghan was like “this” since the beginning. Posting a picture of the former staring at Meghan during her wedding, the picture was captioned, “When you knew from the beginning that she is gonna tear your family apart #Megxit.”

In light of this, a typical Bollywood meme popped up on your Instagram feed. With a speech bubble place alongside a picture of Queen Elizabeth and Meghan Markle’s, it was captioned, “Ja Meghan, Ja Jee Ley Apni Zindagi!” Seems like Meghan is the new Simran from the classic DDLJ!

“You can resign from YOUR FAMILY?” read another post.

Then followed a made-up WhatsApp group titled ‘Royal Family’. The meme read, “Meghan left” followed by “Harry left.” We are sure they found this funny too! This was followed by another post about Queen Elizabeth that read, “Harry ne mujhe WhatsApp pay black kardiya hai (Harry has blocked me on WhatsApp).”

One user commended the Duke and Duchess’ guts. “Very brave of Harry and Meghan to pick January as the month to go freelance.”

Some even dragged Kate Middleton into the drama, posting a meme of how she must be feeling knowing “she has to work more now!” And it was all tears…
