Born in Mumbai to Ram Mukherjee, an Indian film director, Rani made her leading role debut as a strong female protagonist in the film Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat. She has made a valuable contribution to Bollywood with her radiant smile and her honest emotionality and we wish her the very best.
In this film, Rani played a teacher with Tourette's Syndrome. Marked as a 'comeback' film of sorts, Rani portrayed this role to perfection. She combined vulnerability and strength and gave the performance of a lifetime as the whole film rests on her shoulders completely.
2. No one Killed Jessica
In this murder thriller, Rani's role was of a news reporter who is following the story. Alongside Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji is one of those actresses who have proven that mainstream Bollywood films don't always need a hero to work. The film received critical acclaim unanimously.
3. Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
This romantic drama by Karan Johar was a controversial one that later drew a lot of ire from conservative circles. However, Rani's performance was top-notch as she was paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan and the story was of forbidden love.
4. Bunty Aur Babli
This was a Bollywood take on Bonnie and Clyde and Rani appeared alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Rani played the role of a young woman from a small town who is a bit of a trickster. Rani's upbeat performance and mischievous twinkle in her eye won her many hearts.
In Black, Rani played her most challenging role. She played the role of a deaf and mute girl. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and appearing alongside Amitabh Bachchan, the film was quite a challenge. But Rani finished the challenge with flying colors.
