Happy Birthday Ayushmann Khurrana: We celebrate the actor’s most unforgettable on-screen appearances

We celebrate his 36th birthday

Today marks the 36th birthday of Ayushmann Khurrana. The Chandigarh-born actor began his career in tv presenting, before making a swift transition onto the big screen. He’s known as one of Bollywood’s more quirky actors due to his frequent portrayal of unconventional roles. As Khurrana continues to celebrate his birthday with his filmmaker wife, Tahira Kashyap, and his two children, we bring you his most memorable on-screen tv and film appearances.

Vicky Donor

This is probably known as Khurrana’s most recognisable role, as it offered the actor his first on screen breakthrough. Khurran plays the character of a vagabond called Vicky, who gets roped into being a sperm donor by a fertility expert. Ayushmann was a natural at acting, and the laugh out loud romantic comedy went on to be a huge success, ultimately kick starting his career in Bollywood.

MTV Roadies

This MTV reality tv show was Khurrana’s gateway into television as the actor was chosen from thousands who auditioned, and went on to win the second season of the show. His win on the show opened further opportunities with MTV, and he went on to present and star in shows such as MTV Fully Faltoo Movies and Jadoo Ek Baar before moving onto bigger music themed shows such as India’s Got Talent and Music Ka Maha Muqqabla. 25th Star Screen Awards

Whilst this isn’t strictly an acting role, this was a true career highlight for Ayushmann Khurrana. In 2018, he co presented the Star Screen Awards alongside Vicky Kaushal, which was broadcasted to Star Plus. The pair were well received by the audience, and at this point, Khurrana made the switch to being a well recognised face in the industry instead of a rising star. It's worth noting that his entrance on stage is quite something!

Gulabo Sitabo

Nothing screams ‘you’ve made it’ more than working with the legend Amitabh Bachchan. Gulabo Sitabo is Khurrana's most recent role, and tells the story of an old miser landlord (Amitabh Bachchan) and his tenant, (Ayushmann Khurrana). The film sees the two clash in a comedy style as they argue over money and try to teach each other a lesson. The film had to release on Amazon Prime Video instead of in theatres.

Bareilly Ki Barfi

This 2017 romantic comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkumar Rao received a huge box office success and got glowing reviews from critics. It received six nominations at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, and Khurrana’s role as the love interest, Chirag Dubey, made it all the more unforgettable. It made a whopping commercial grossing amount of just over ₹600 million (US$8.4 million).
