Padmaavat has been slewed in controversy ever since its inception, with the film being indefinitely postponed, to sets being burnt to, death threats being thrown in, Padmaavat has seen more than its fair share of drama.
Now that the film has finally secured a release date (25 Jan), some states in India have chosen to ban its release. Haryana became the latest state to ban the film taking the total number of states who have banned the film to four. Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have already banned the film despite the censor board clearing it. Thankfully, Uttar Pradesh has decided not to ban the film despite huge public pressure to do so.
On Tuesday, the Haryana cabinet headed by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar formally approved the proposals made by two ministers Anil Vij and Vipul Goel to ban the film in the state. "Film Padmavati/Padmaavat banned in Haryana," Vij tweeted on Tuesday.
Our hearts really go out to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika, Ranveer, Shahid and the whole crew for all the backlash they’ve faced because of this.
