Go Quirky This Winter With Bollywood Inspired Dishes
The winter menu at this popular Indian restaurant takes heavy inspiration from Bollywood stars and Mumbai street lingo
For desi food lovers, Hitchki is a place where they can find everything they love – from quirky décor that reminds you of home to Bollywood inspired dishes, the names of which are sure to bring a smile to your face, and a fun ambiance ideal for a vivacious brunch, a get-together with friends or a catch-up with colleagues. A few weeks ago, they introduced the winter menu and given the unpredictable weather in the UAE these days, it would be safe to assume that the menu will hold good for a long time.
The restaurant has always focused on street side delicacies, giving each a twist and that’s pretty much what you can find in this menu as well. The philosophy is the same – interesting, innovative food with a large dose of Bollywood and nostalgia. Does it work? Yes and no. Some of the kebabs that were served were great but I found them too heavy. There was a platter of dumplings with momos and bao included – the idea was good I would have preferred a more transparent outer layer. The starters had a lovely take on the ever-popular pani puri but it was fried puris that must have surely added to the calorie count!
However, the team deserves full mark for innovation and sense of humour, aside from their attentive, warm and top-notch service. How can you not chuckle when presented with thali that has faces of popular movie characters embossed on the box and is titled ‘Gogo Tussi Great Ho’? From SRK’s Raees to Salman Khan in Dabangg, you have Bollywood staring at you! The dishes in the thali have been introduced thus: Cast – Paneerneeti Butter Masala, Shah Rukh Naan, Alia Bhaat… you get the drift. Shift the box and inside you have your daal, yummy roti, biryani and a dessert. Same thing, new packaging. And yes, everything is oh-so-‘grammable!
The menu is long, there is a lot to choose from and we suggest you go slow and steady with the food. The idea should be to spend a nice long evening with friends over Bollywood chatter, gossip and dishes like Patel Wrap, The Kapil Shawarma Roll and Malai Ka Aroma. Seriously clever!
