Game of Thrones star, Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in the recently wrapped up HBO series has checked into a rehabilitation centre to deal with some personal issues. Multiple sources confirmed to Page Six that the actor has secretly checked into luxury rehab before the end of the show for stress and alcohol use as the series finale "really hit him hard".
Harington has been at the luxury Connecticut health retreat Privé-Swiss since before May 19, which is before the final season of Game of Thrones aired on television. He has reportedly been at the facility for about a month now. The 32-year-old actor has been undergoing intense psychological coaching while also practicing mindful meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy. The therapy that costs over $120,000 a month, will help him combat stress and deal with negative emotions.
His wife, Rose Leslie - who played Ygritte in Game of Thrones - is standing by him and being very supportive. The two met on the sets of the show and fell in love, tying the knot in June 2018.
A friend of the actor revealed that the ending of Game of Thrones hit Harington really hard. "He realized ‘this is it — this is the end’, it was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, 'What next?' Currently, he’s at the clinic, predominantly, for stress and exhaustion, and also alcohol. Rose is being extremely supportive. Everyone close to him really wanted him to get some rest. Right now, he just needs peace and quiet."
While it's not sure how long the actor will be staying at the centre for, he is allowed to leave the facility to get a few breaks. Locals in Connecticut have spotted him in the neighbourhood, sometimes heading to the wellness centre and other times, at a bookstore. On the weekend of the series finale, Harington was seen at RJ Julia Booksellers in a small town named Madison when he told the staff that he was in the area on a holiday. Another resident of the area said, "Kit looks really good and appears to be very focused on his health and wellness. I have personally seen him out in the community many times. I think it’s wonderful that he is taking time to take care of himself – more people should."
Harington has been vocal about his struggle and also admitted to seeking therapy when he found out that his character kills Daenerys Targaryen in the show. In the documentary released by HBO, the star was also seen breaking down in tears during a script reading, when he found out how the show ends.
