Tourists planning to visit the UAE along with their children, in the next couple of months, should make their travel plans quickly! The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICC) in the UAE will be waiving off the tourist visa fees of tourists under the age of 18 who are visiting the UAE during the summer months. This is based on a cabinet decision in July 2018, which stipulated the visa fee exemption for visitors under 18, for a period of three months, from 15 July to 15 September. The only condition to avail this offer is that the children need to be accompanied by at least one of their parents, either or short or long-term visa.
Two types of tourist visas are issued in UAE. There is a short-term, single-entry visa for 30 days for AED 200. This can be extended twice, for one month each time). The long-term visa is for 90 days (3 months) and costs AED 550. It can also be extended twice, for one more month each time. Visa extension fees is AED 600 each time.
The Federal Authority is encouraging tourists to choose the UAE as a family holiday destination. The UAE offers many facilities to tourists in order to maintain the emirate’s competitiveness as a tourist destination. With the visa fee exemption for kids, many families will be able to save money on visa expenses while enjoying a good holiday in the UAE. According to the Director General of the Foreigners Affairs and Ports Authority, Major General Saeed Rakan Rashidi, tourists can apply for the free visa through ICC’s website (www.ica.gov.ae) or smart app, selecting the category of family tourist visa. They can also apply for it via licensed travel agencies, UAE hotels or when booking flights through UAE-based airlines, i.e. Emirates, Etihad, FlyDubai and Air Arabia.
