Bobby Deol may not have exactly had reasons to cheer at the box office but he is an ace when it comes to whacking sixes and fours on the cricket field. An all-rounder for the CCL team Mumbai Heroes, Bobby is all set to pad up for the action that will unfold at Dubai Sports Stadium on February 1, 2014. We caught up with the actor-cricketer for an exclusive cricket chat...
What’s your strength and weakness as a cricketer?
My biggest strength is that I love the game and my weakness is that I don’t have much practice (laughs).
Who’s your current favourite Indian cricketer and why?
Well all the players are very fit and aware these days. Rohit, Virat and Shikhar are great and our captain MS Dhoni is very professional so it’s hard to point out one favourite.
Who do you think is your strongest opponent in CCL this year?
In CCL, audiences primarily come to watch actors play but certain teams have actual players in their team and give them a role in a film or two, making them ‘actors’ as well. Thus, such teams become stronger since they have people who have played professional cricket. It’s therefore hard to predict who is the strongest. Overall, I am just trying to have fun.
If your personality represents a current Indian cricketer, who would it be and why?
(Laughs loud) Difficult question! As a person, I prefer to be an all-rounder and when I was growing up, my favourite all-rounder was Kapil Dev, so I’d go with paaji.
Your last film Yamla Pagla Deewana didn’t do as well as expected. What do you think went wrong?
When things don’t do well you can tear the film apart and make everything seem wrong. But when it does well even a weak point can be overlooked. So it’s hard to say what went wrong.
Besides films and sport, tell us about any two things that interest you?
Sport keeps me happy and healthy and work keeps me going so I think these are the only two things that interest me. I have been playing badminton since I was a child. I used to play with my father and brother. We still do.
If the God of cricket is Sachin, who is the God of Bollywood?
