Trends: Opening the sixth edition of Fashion Pakistan Week, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, HSY (or Sheru as his friends call him) unveiled his Venom collection. The collection, which marks 20 years in the Pakistani fashion industry for him, was dominated by nude and black outfits, dashed with accents of red and orange, as well as textures that have been inspired by snakeskin. Vivid, striking and glamorous, the collection featured design elements such as chevron lines, which have historically been used to indicate rank of service in the military, and were incorporated by HSY to signify his two decades within the fashion industry.
"They say a snake sheds his skin for a new life and after 20 years that's exactly what I'm doing - that was my inspiration for the collection. Also, the chevron army lines depict rank and achievements and all those lines were depicting all the experiences of my life,' HSY said.
Why the name Venom for the collection? "I'm a Scorpio and we all know what Scorpios are full of! So, it's also having a little fun on my part."
Aimed at both South Asian and Middle Eastern women, the collection has been specifically designed to appeal to a range of tastes and sensibilities. "I don't think you have to be scandalous to be alluring - the region is changing and we can't ignore it" said HSY.
Looking ravishing in a black and gold layered ensemble, super model Nadia Hussain received a standing ovation when she walked the ramp as the showstopper for HSY.
Front Row: Supporting HSY from the front row were other prominent designers such as Umar Sayeed, Shamaeel Ansari, Nomi Ansari, ace photographer Ather Shahzad and Asim Reza, son-in-law of former Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf.
