Farhan Akhtar To Shraddha Kapoor Backs Aarey Forest Protests: Supreme Court Orders to Stop Cutting Trees Immediately
Bollywood actors took to social media to express discontent over slashing trees of Aarey Colony in Mumbai.
Bollywood celebrities have started to graciously associate themselves with various social causes that they feel needs immediate attention and can be heard far and wide, courtesy of their global reach. Save Aaray Forest is one such initiative that took the whole Bollywood by storm and they did everything in their capacity to raise their voices so that higher authorities can take immediate notice. Many Bollywood celebs via their social media handles, had made their statements against the government's move to make a car shed in Aarey for Mumbai Metro.
Recently Vishal Dadlani came in support of Save Aaray forest and took to Instagram by saying” There is an alternate location for Metro shed. There is no alternate for #Aaray!! Now the good news is that No more trees are required to be cut to make way for a car shed of the Mumbai Metro in Aaray colony. The Maharashtra government told the Supreme Court today. The top court was hearing the case after a group of students wrote to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. On Sunday, 29 activists arrested during protests on Friday night as trees were pulled down following a court go-ahead were released on bail with Rs. 7000 cash bond each.
Previously, we saw Shraddha Kapoor, in a bit to save Aaray forest Mumbai, wore a white t-shirt that read “Save Aaray” while getting papped at the airport. Bollywood celebs like Dia Mirza, Swara Bhasker, Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Ashoke Pandit and more took to their Twitter account to express their anger and sadness over the same. Farhan Akhtar in one of his tweets about Aaray forest wrote while expressing his anger “Cutting trees at night is a pathetic attempt at trying to get away with something even those doing it know is wrong. #Aarey #GreenIsGold #Mumbai. Previously Filmmaker Karan Johar described the cutting of trees as a “massacre”. “We are our own worst enemy!” he tweeted. “Infrastructure can never precede nature! We need to stop!”
Last month, protestors had camped outside actor Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow in the city’s Juhu locality after Amitabh Bachchan tweeted in support of the metro project.
