The release of Padmavati has been indefinitely deferred and the film might release only in the middle of next year. Previously it was reported that the film might release in January or February 2017. Sources close to the film have confirmed that it is not happening. This is the reason why every promotional material of the film has been taken out of the market.
The primary reason is because the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is in no mood to clear the film as of yet. The film has been referred to a committee of historians before it comes up for clearance. The Padmavati team, which was hoping to get clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after the Gujarat elections, is in for some disappointment. Sources at the CBFC say that there are no plans of viewing Padmavati this year.
“There is no way Padmavati can be certified before January. December is almost over. We have not scheduled the film. There are at least 40 feature films in different languages, waiting in the queue before Padmavati. We now have to appoint a panel of historians to view the film, because according to the disclaimer (that Sanjay Leela Bhansali added in the beginning of the film), it’s partially based on historical facts. The content will now have to be scrutinised for authenticity,” said a CBFC advisor.
We wonder when the film will finally release now!
