Fashion Forward, the regions greatest fashion platform for budding and aspiring designers is back with its 9th season, and it has only gotten bigger and better. In addition to a series of fashion talks by industry experts, the runway will display the best of regional and international designers, showcasing the best in fashion and accessories.
We bring to you 9 things to keep an eye out for on the 9th edition of this fashion extravaganza.
1. #tiedtogether Movement
In a world that finds it challenging to stand in solidarity, Fashion Forward has joined hands to support Business of Fashion in the #tiedtogether movement to stand united and make a clear statement of inclusiveness and raise donations for the ACLU and UNHCR. These donations will go towards supporting the welfare and protecting the rights of refugees in this time of crisis. To support this positive move and get involved, sport a white bandana at the event which symbolises this movement and upload an image of your bandana to social media, with the hashtag #tiedtogether
2. Fashion Debutants
To add to the long list of talent at FFWD, the platform bring to you debutant designers such as Abed Mahfouz, Anaya, By Sadeem, Cheyma, Ghain Ghada, Ghudfah, Hessa Falasi, Royaled by RH, Rony El Helou and Diana Wassef designers from STARCH Foundation. Also, jewellery designers like AZRA, Bija Jewels, Joudesign, Jude Benhalim, Lya Lya, Sam Jewls, SHVET and Emirati designer The O Jewellery will be unveiling their sparkling timeless pieces.
3. Back to the Ramp
Returning season after season to showcase their spectacular collections are popular names like Amato by Furne One, Michael Cinco, Emperor 1688 and Hussien Bazaza to name a few.
4. Instant Gratification: ‘See Now, Buy Now’
Nothing beats the excitement of having the chance to buy your favourite piece right off the runway. To add to the whole experience, FFWD now allows you to purchase what you like the minute you see it. Imagine buying a piece by the designer brand Emperor right after the show presented by Reebok!
5. FFWD Official After-Parties
Who doesn’t enjoy a fashion soiree? Between the hectic schedule of ramp walks and enlightening talks from fashion experts, FFWD takes it a notch higher, giving attendees to get together and celebrate over canapes and bubblies as you party the night away.
6. Get Some Street Style Inspo
When it comes to Fashion Weeks, it is not just what’s on the runway that makes news. Fashionistas that attend FFWD give us some major style inspiration off the ramp as they strut around in quirky, sassy and classy outfits. 7. The Indian Element
6Degree one of India’s first fashion talent and tech companies marks their entry into the international fashion sphere by joining hands with FFWD to give the opportunity to budding Indian designers to showcase their exclusive collections on this great platform. Birdwalk by designer Amrapali Singh will present a collection of modern wearable dresses drawing inspiration from nature and Vedika M will display a line of fun prêt couture full of quirky designs and vibrant hues. Now that’s something we’re really looking forward to see!
8. The Showcase
To add to all the awesomeness FFWD already brings to you, they have now introduced a special section that will display the best of the regions accessory designers. Be ready to have your minds blown with jewellery designed by Alessa Jewelry, Azra, Belquis, BIJA Jewels, Joudesign, Jude Benhalim, LYA LYA, Madiso, Rosa Maria Jewellery, Rula Galayini, Sam Jewels, Shveta and Vinita Michael to name a few.
9. Let’s talk fashion
FFWD is known for its inspirational fashion talks by industry experts. To support d3’s objective of nurturing talent, the platform will be hosting talks with a ‘back to basics’ theme, giving attendees a chance to interact with industry professionals to learn the tricks or the trade. The talks are mainly aimed at helping designers and young entrepreneurs educate themselves on the inside working of the fashion industry. Aspiring entrepreneurs will get a chance to learn about different ways to go about funding a new venture while budding designers can enlighten themselves on sourcing and trend forecasting.
Some of the specific topics will include, ‘The Art of Digital Storytelling in Fashion’ where CEO of Nowness (LVMH), Daniel Coutinho will speak about the importance of integrating the right kind of visual and video content to help fashion brands reach a larger audience. Another talk group of industry experts will discuss the viability of the See now, Buy now concept and weather it will work in the Middle East. Leaders from top institutions of the region and from Europe will also be present to educate fashion folk on the right way to go about pursuing a career in the industry. Going digital, Eddie Mullon, founder of Fashion GPS and President of the newly formed company Launchmetrics, will explore the importance of technology in fashion and why it the new big thing.
