Third Half Theatre Presents Sanjeev Dixit’s ‘Sutradhar’

Created by visionary Dubai based writer & director Sanjeev Dixit, whose 2017 musical ‘Amazing Dubai’ played at The Madinat for six months, Sutradhar is inspired by the traditions of Natyashastra, the Greek Classics, and Japanese Noh. Sutradhar is a play in English that presents a classic tale to a modern, multicultural audience in the director’s inimitable style, incorporating varied elements into a timeless story derived from the Indian epic Mahabharata. Love and duty are sacrificed to the politics of betrayal, and vengeance.

Sutradhar, an Indian word which literally translates to ‘the one who holds the strings’, implies a mastermind, a puppeteer even—a controller of the fortunes of those influenced, or manipulated. Yet, as the play asks at one point, “aren’t we all at some time both the puppeteer and the marionette?”

The play will be staged on the weekend of November 15, 16, and 17 at 7:30 pm along with an additional show at 4 pm on Saturday the 17th.
