Emmy Awards 2019: Amazon Promotes The Marvelous Mrs Maisel in Los Angeles
Amazon Prime’s popular show The Marvelous Mrs Maisel has 20 Emmy nominations and has been using promotional tactics to charm LA residents and voters.
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is an American period comedy-drama series which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2017. It stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam "Midge" Maisel, a wealthy Jewish housewife with the perfect life in New York City in the 1950s. Her husband’s betrayal leads her into stand-up comedy which changes her life forever as she tries to build her professional life as a female comic. The show’s first season received 14 Emmy nominations and won in eight categories, including outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead actress in a comedy series (Rachel Brosnahan), outstanding directing for a comedy series (Amy Sherman-Palladino) and outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for Alex Borstein.
This year the show has received a whopping 20 nominations, including nominations in major categories such as outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, supporting actor in a comedy category (Tony Shalhoub), supporting actress in a comedy category (Marin Hinkle), guest actor in a comedy category (Luke Kirby, Rufus Sewell and Jane Lynch) etc. It has also been recognised in several technical categories such as costume design, cinematography, production design, casting, and sound mixing.
For Emmys season exposure, Amazon has been using different promotional tactics for the show in Los Angeles, wooing viewers and TV Academy voters, as the final voting round has begun. The Amazon team offered 1959-era gasoline prices (30 cents) but the gas station had to be closed temporarily by the police due to traffic issues. Several other Hollywood-based businesses also participated in these promotions. The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel attracted a long queue of customers with rooms available at just $40 for the night. Drybar offered $2 appointments, Bay Theatre 51-cent movie tickets and Art’s Delicatessen served 99-cent sandwiches. Meanwhile, Amazon has also announced that the third season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel will premiere within four months, on 6th December 2019.
