Dubai Municipality Responds to False Claims Made Against Saudi Based Milk Companies and Oreos

Your favorite biscuits have made it through the false rumors and so have the milk companies

A few days back, social media was abuzz with the news about Saudi-based milk companies e.g. Al Marai, Safi and Nadec consuming synthetic growth hormones to increase milk supply. The Giant companies came under heavy fire on consuming hormones on dairy cattle to boost milk production.

However, Dubai Municipality has stepped forward to categorically deny all such false accusations. In their recent Instagram post on their official account, they have laid all the rumors to rest by confirming that “This rumor is not based on any scientific references or official statements from accredited governmental entities & the milk products are from KSA, which applies technical regulations & GSO standards”. The municipality also further emphasized that the civic body and regulatory bodies in UAE “supervise all shipments of imported food and ensure their safety and validity for consumption.

It should also be taken into account that the both the Dairy companies e.g. Almarai and Nadec are top producers in wider Arab Gulf region and consequently major stake holders in Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul).

In another similar incident, rumors were taking rounds that Oreo biscuits available in UAE market contained traces of alcohol and hence were not halal to be consumed. The civic body again came to the rescue and cleared the air against the wrong claims and assured its people that the product is alcohol-free and hence halal certified.

The rumor mongers started throwing shade on an error when one of the ingredient “chocolate liquor” was literally translated into Alcohol in Arabic, which should have been translated to cocoa paste. Besides Oreo biscuits distributed in UAE are actually produced in Bahrain hence the rumors are baseless and do not hold any truth.
