Dubai Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum leads first Dubai Run as 70,000 participants follow
Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road was transformed into a race track yesterday for the Dubai Fitness Challenge which had over 70,000 participants of all nationalities
On November 8, Dubai witnessed a spectacular display of community, solidarity and enthusiasm . For the very first time, the city's Sheikh Zayed Road transformed into a thumping race track for Dubai Fitness Challenge 2019. Residents and visitors of all ages and abilities totaling up to 70,000 came together to make history and take part in the inaugural Dubai Run. Headed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the event featured two courses to ensure it is highly inclusive – a 5km and 10km route.
The young and old from all nationalities participated in the run. It started from the Dubai World Trade Centre and both routes saw a diverse group of runners taking to the streets surrounding some of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks including Burj Khalifa, Dubai Opera, The Dubai Mall and Emirates Towers. Commenting on the event, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, "Today marks a milestone in our mission to make Dubai the most active city in the world - together as one society. I commend the enthusiasm and energy of our people and I am proud of how the people of Dubai – across ages, nationalities and abilities – have come together to create such an inspiring event. Congratulations to all those who accepted the challenge. I am confident that you will encourage even more to join over the coming days and make DFC 2019 our most successful edition yet."
The Dubai Fitness Challenge is an initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum himself. It has been created to motivate the people of Dubai to boost their physical activity and commit to 30 minutes of daily activity for 30 days. Running from October 18 to November 16, 2019, the challenge encompasses all forms of activity – from cycling and football, to kayaking, team sports, walking and yoga, as well as wellness and healthy lifestyle. Everyone is encouraged to participate individually or together with friends, family and colleagues and enjoy new and exciting ways to improve their fitness and health levels.
