Dream Girl Box Office Collections: Ayushmann Khurrana’s Film Inches Closer to INR 100 Crore Mark

Dream Girl is a dream-come-true for debutante director Raaj Shandaliya and lead actor Ayushmann Khurrana. Made on a budget of INR 30 crore, the comedy film has so far managed to earn profits of up to 188.66 percent, with its total earnings amounting to INR 86.60 crore on Saturday. Taran Adarsh, film trade analyst, reported on Twitter, “#DreamGirl jumps again on [second] Sat... Is racing towards ₹ 100 cr mark... Will be #AyushmannKhurrana's second century, after #BadhaaiHo... [Week 2] Fri 5.30 cr, Sat 9.10 cr. Total: ₹ 86.60 cr. #India biz. HIT.”

The film, which was released on 13th September, has been a strong competitor for this weekend’s new releases, including The Zoya Factor, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas and Prassathanam.

Dream Girl has already surpassed Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy, which was produced on a budget of INR 50 crore and earned profits of up to 178.76 percent in its lifetime run. It remains to be seen whether the film will be able to beat the record of Kartik Aaryan’s comedy film, Luka Chuppi, which earned up to 276.60 percent in profits.

The film’s story revolves around Karam (Ayushmann), an unemployed man with the unique talent of perfectly impersonating a woman’s voice. Due to his desperate circumstances (debts), Karam temporarily takes up a job at a female friendship centre, where he becomes the phone companion of many lonely male callers, who believe he is Pooja. The situation becomes chaotic (and hilarious) when the male callers start professing their love for Pooja and want to meet her in person. The film, produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, stars Nushrat Bharucha as the female lead and Annu Kapoor, Vijay Raaz, Manjot Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Nidhi Bisht and Raj Bhansali in supporting roles.
