Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh came under fire when news about him allegedly performing at a gig in the United States went viral on social media. This reportedly irked the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) who claimed the concert was being promoted by a Pakistani national, Rehan Siddiqi and it requested the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to cancel Diljit’s visa. Following much flak, the artist postponed his performance in the US, which was scheduled to take place on September 21. The Udta Punjab actor took to his Twitter handle and issued a statement regarding the scheduled concert, saying that he is postponing the performance at this time. He also said that he was not performing in a tour promoted by a Pakistani national as his contract was with a company called Shri Balaji Entertainment.

“Regarding Houston concert on Sep 21, I have just become aware of a letter issued by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to me by an article published in the Mumbai Mirror today, I was not aware of any such intimation by the Federation before today,” he wrote. He went on to mention that his contract is only with Shri Balaji Entertainment and nobody else as stated in the film body’s letter. “I would like to state that my contract is only with Shri Balaji Entertainment. My dealings and agreement is with them only and nobody else that is mentioned in the article or Federation Letter,” Diljit stated.

He continued, “However in lieu of the letter by the FWICE I have decided to postpone my Houston show at this time. I love my country and will always stand for the greater interest of the Nation INDIA Always.” Diljit also reacted to several media reports of him being banned by the FWICE as he was performing in a concert promoted by a Pakistani national. He also shared a meme and captioned it, “YOU ARE FAKE NEWS.” Diljit also tweeted, “News Na Ho Gai .. Whatsapp Hee Ho Gaya.. ke 11 Bando Ko Aagey Bhejo.. Khushkhabri Milegi... Oye Phelan Pata Tan Kar Lao.. GAL KI EH...” Ashoke Pandit, chief advisor of FWICE lauded Diljit for his decision and wrote, “FWICE really appreciates this stand of @diljitdosanjh. This kind of a stand sends a strong message that for Indians country comes first irrespective of prejudices and choices. You have set precedence for the future.”
