The debate on nepotism, is one that’s probably never going to end. With everyone pitching in with their two cents on the issue, nepotism has been the most trending debate in B-town ever since Kangana appeared on KJo’s Koffee with Karan.
What started with Kangana labelling Karan as the ‘flagbearer of nepotism”, went on to Karan slamming Queen K saying, “I don’t think she has understood the entire meaning of the term. What is nepotism… am I working with my nieces, nephews, daughters, cousins? And what about those 15 filmmakers, who are not from the film industry, who I have launched and who did the movies. That we’re not going to talk about!”
While Karan and Kangana both spoke openly about their thoughts on the subject, the industry was somewhat divided regarding which side they supported. At a recent summit, when Varun Dhawan was quizzed about what he thought of Karan being the ‘flagbearer of nepotism’, the actor said, “Who all has he (Johar) launched? Star kids only, right? So how is it an allegation? It is a fact, right? However, he has also launched a lot of directors also, like Shashank Khaitan, who is a dear friend. He is from Nashik and he had nothing to do with films. He just gave his script to Karan and Karan wanted to make a film with him. Karan has also made a film titled Gippy. He launched a girl with that too. Sidharth (Malhotra), he is also not a star-kid, but Karan launched him also.”
Going on to speak about what he thought of Kangana’s viewpoints, Varun said, “So, what Kangana (Ranaut) is saying is right, but this whole thing is too blown up. I think she was trying to get her point across in her way, but people really stretched it too much. Such things happen in the fraternity!”
Well said right? Varun’s statement didn’t only validate Kangana’s allegation on Karan, but also shed light on the face that even though Karan has launched many star kids, he has also supported talent who were absolutely new to the industry.
