On February 14th, a CRPF convoy was attacked by a van laden with explosives. 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives and there was a nation-wide condemnation of Pakistan and there were calls for blanket bans of Pakistani artistes in Bollywood.
The Kapil Sharma Show co-host, Punjab Cabinet Minister and ex-cricketer turned politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu had a different take from everyone else in the wake of the attacks.
Producer Salman Khan has reportedly asked Navjot Singh Sidhu to step down from The Kapil Sharma Show, according to a news site. Salman didn’t want the ratings of the show to take a hit because of the controversy. While the final decision of Navjot Singh Sidhu’s exit from the show is still on hold, Sidhu will not be shooting the next couple of episodes. Sources say Salman Khan is waiting for things to calm down.
Navjot Singh Sidhu’s comments, that got him into the bad books regarding the Pulwama attacks were, “Nations cannot be held responsible for the dastardly acts of terrorists. The terrorists do not have a religion. There are good, bad and ugly. Every institution has them and every nation has them. The ugly needs to be punished. Individuals cannot be blamed for the dastardly act.”
Following his statement, there was a massive hue and cry and a call to #BoycottKapilSharmaShow and #UnsubscribeSonyTV.
Kapil Sharma came out in support of Navjot Singh Sidhu and said that the ‘youth are being misled’ with such social media campaigns.
