A few days ago, the industry was shocked when allegations of sexual harassment were levelled against of the most respected and successful directors Rajkumar Hirani.
However, in a change of narration, the voices in support of Raju Hirani has started to gain more ground. At the same time, the question about why an accused should get a fair trial in case of sexual harassment has also been doing the rounds.
Till date, the accuser in the Hirani case hasn't gone to court but at the same time the director has already been punished without even a hearing -- his name has been removed as a producer and his forthcoming iconic Munnabhai franchise has been put on hold. Even though Raju Hirani has produced proof that shows the victim might be lying, the director has been named and shamed in public.
The treatment meted out to Hirani has prompted some Bollywood actors to start a campaign where they have spoken out about the unfairness of the director going through a social media trial even before his crime has been established. The foremost among them is Sharman Joshi. Here is what he tweeted.
Dia Mirza too voiced her support. "I am deeply distressed by this news. As someone who has known and respects Raju sir for 15 years, I can only hope that a due official enquiry is conducted. He is one of the most decent human beings I have ever worked with and I think it would be grossly unjust on my part to speak on this as I do not know the details," Dia told a website.
Former actress Raageswari Loomba also reacted to the "trial by social media" that Raju Hirani is facing. Here's her Facebook post.
