So Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter have passed the difficult box office test. The duo’s debut film Dhadak, produced by Karan Johar has grossed 100 crores worldwide and the happy filmmaker took to social media to announce it.
It is now officially the highest grossing film starring newcomers after Student of the Year, which was also produced by Karan. Dhadak got a huge opening thanks to the fantastic pre publicity and marketing campaign. There was a lot of pressure on Janhvi especially, considering she was being compared to her legendary mother, the late Sridevi. However, now she can heave a sigh of relief.
Boxofficeindia.com reported that in the second week, Dhadak garnered over Rs 1.50-1.60 crore nett and the total business now stood at nearly Rs 64 crore net. The way it is going, it will cross the 100 crore mark nett as well.
Interestingly, despite the stiff competition by Mission Impossible: Fallout, Dhadak has managed to stay put. It has helped that last week’s release Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 did not do any wonders at the box office. It remains to be seen how it will fare in week 3 as this week sees three movies hitting the theatres - Mulk, Fanney Khan and Karwaan
