Dev Anand passes away at 88
The legendary actor died of a heart attack and will be sorely missed
It's the end of an era for Bollywood with the death of legendary actor Dev Anand on Saturday, December 3 2011. The 88-year-old died of a heart attack in London's Washington Mayfair Hotel.
The news was confirmed on Twitter by Shekhar Kapur, Dev Anand's nephew. Shekhar posted, "(Dev Anand) was working one minute. Sat down and smiled. And was gone the next."
Dev Anand left behind a rich legacy of work spanning forty years, includind hits like 'Paying Guest', 'Baazi', 'Jewel Thief', 'CID', 'Johny Mera Naam', 'Amir Garib', 'Warrant', 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and 'Des Pardes', as well as a Filmfare winning performance in 'Kaala Pani'.
Bollywood was quick to pay tribute to Dev sahab, with Amitabh Bachchan's Twitter post summing up the feelings of many: "An era has come to an end. Dev Anand leaves a void never perhaps to be filled again. He never gave up belief, his joy of life."
