The promos of brand new television series Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai makes one stop in their tracks to take a double look at the figure on the reclining chair! Yes, as the narrating domestic help, who is often a confidante for many people, gives us the background to the story, we're reassured that lady on the chair is indeed actress Deepti Naval and not Lata Mangeshkar!
Deepti Naval, who plays the older version of a celebrated singer, Kalyani on the show is the quintessential stoic personality. The curiosity is there, as Deepti maintains her silence, giving the audience a chance to guage the personality behind that pensive look. The promo does not reveal much other than the fact that it is a story of two talented sisters, who are equally good singers but driven apart due their strong personalities. Not surprising that the resemblance is uncanny to the alleged rivalry between Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. The legendary sisters are played by actresses Deepti Naval and Zarina Wahab.
Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan will have a finite 130 episodes and will appear on &TV soon, reported an article in Bollywood Life. This will also be the television debut of Bollywood actress Amrita Rao. Set against the backdrop of the music industry, the TV series do a good job of transporting one back in time to the calssical era of Bollywood music, with details like the customary gramophone and the sprawling living room showing a very Mangeshkar like Deepti Naval sitting on a relicing chair.
