Since the past few years, biopics and films based on true stories have been on the rise. Likewise, superstar Deepika Padukone also announced last year that she will be starring in a film on the story of Laxmi Agarwal, a victim of acid attack. Not only was Deepika going to star in the film, but she also shared that it was going to be her first production venture. Titled, Chhapaak, the trailer of the film was released earlier this week and fans have been lauding the actress for her performance – with many hailing it to be her best performance to date. However, in latest news it has been revealed that Laxmi – who was not a part of the trailer launch - has also been paid a small amount for her story.

A user shared on Twitter, “As it turns out, apparently Laxmi has only been given 11 lakhs for using her story in Chhapak? And she is contractually forbidden from letting anyone else use her story? All this while Deepika earns in crores? Wow.” The user also sourced the news to Telegraph India.

Many then rushed to call out the actress and the production team for once again using a sensitive story for their own gain. One user wrote, “The utter lack of moral fibre Bollywood has is mind-numbing! Shame on you, Deepika Padukone.”

Another added, “Not even surprised. She wasn't called on the trailer launch and we all saw the fake drama that happened there. Those badi badi baatein are nothing but baits and this is film nothing more than a mere commercial venture.”

One tweeted, “If this is true then it’s definitely not the right thing. But anyone from the Gulzar family indulging in these kind of things is what makes it sad.”

Another shared, “Deepika Padukone projects an emotional quotient during the trailer release simply to suit the need of the hour. In a country where emotions play a stronger role in deciding the right or wrong, the love for celebrities often leads 2 turning of a blind eye to their vices. Hypocrisy.”
