Deepika Padukone or Taapsee Pannu: Who Would Play Amrita Pritam in Upcoming Biopic

Deepika Padukone and Taapsee Pannu are both frontrunners for the upcoming biopic on Amrita Pritam. Read more about the details of the film that will also star Abhishek Bachchan

Deepika Padukone or Taapsee Pannu, who would be playing the late poet Amrita Pritam in the upcoming biopic, is a question that has not been answered yet. Deepika Padukone was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmaavat. Taapsee Pannu was last seen in the film Badla with Amitabh Bachchan. Deepika Padukone will soon be seen in Meghna Gulzaar’s Chhapaak

Taapsee would soon be seen in Mission Mangal with Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Sonakshi Sinha. Mission Mangal is about the story of scientists in the Indian Space Research Organization and will be in theatres August 15, 2019. Deepika’s film is set to release by 2019’s end or early 2020.

It is reported that Abhishek Bachchan has been locked to play the role of Sahir Ludhiyanvi. Sources say that there is a strong possibility that Deepika may do this role. Says the source, “Bhansali wants to work again  with Deepika as soon as possible. Though she is  not a part of his  next directorial (Inshallah), he has offered her the prized role of Amrita Pritam which Deepika is seriously considering.”

Apparently her only precondition is that the biopic be named after both the protagonists instead of just Sahir Ludhianvi and Bhansali is “quite okay” with that.

Amrita Pritam and Sahir Ludhiyanvi were friends but it is known that Amrita had an unrequited love for Sahir which was not really reciprocated. Amrita’s poem ‘Aj akhaan Waris Shah nu’ is a very well-known poem based on the bloodshed of partition. Sahir Ludhiyanvi was known for his work as a lyricist and won acclaim for his work in Taj Mahal and Kabhi Kabhi.
