Deepika Padukone Clears Misconception Between Being Depressed and an Introvert
Deepika Padukone is one of the only Bollywood stars who have spoken openly about her depression. She recently clarified that being shy has nothing to do with depression
Deepika Padukone is one actress who has made her mark in the industry and continues to do so as time progresses. Gearing up for the release of her upcoming film, Chhapaak, the actress has termed the Meghna Gulzar as the most precious film of her career. From her stellar acting skills to her bold sartorial style, the Piku actress has left no stone unturned to leave a lasting impression on her audiences. However, the most important thing that the Chhapaak star did was speak about her struggle with depression at the peak of her career.
When Deepika Padukone opened up about suffering with depression, not only did it give people courage and hope, but it also normalized mental health. However, it is pertinent to note that people still connect her being depressed with her being shy and an introvert. In a recent interview, Deepika Padukone opened up about the misconception.
In a chat with an entertainment portal, Deepika Padukone stated that her being shy and introvert has nothing to do with her being depressed. The Chhapaak star revealed that she is still shy but that doesn’t stop her from doing what she has to do socially. She clarified that being shy and being depressed are not connected. She further went on to say that just because she is socially awkward or shy, doesn’t mean she won’t act in front of cameras and work like an actor. She also made mention of the fact that it takes a lot of effort on her part to put it aside and continue doing what she needs to as an actor.
“The two things (her depression and being an introvert) are not connected. I’m still a shy person, I’m still an introvert. Both aspects are completely different from me speaking about depression. It’s like me being an actor — just because I'm shy or an introvert or awkward that doesn’t mean I shouldn't perform well on camera. Eventually, it takes a lot of me...not that I can’t do it... it just takes a lot of me and from me to put that aspect of my life aside and do what I really have to,” she said.
