Ajay Devgn is having a good year at the box office. Earlier this year it was Total Dhamaal that was a slapstick comedy. It starred Madhuri Dixit Nene and Anil Kapoor and was a hit with an earning of over 150 crores. Ajay’s next film was released on his 50th birthday as he played a man his age onscreen in Akiv Ali and Luv Ranjan’s De De Pyaar De. The film also starred Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh and Javed Jaffrey. The film was based around an older man falling in love with a younger woman.
The box office has liked the film even if the critics haven’t. The film “showed growth of around 45% on it second Saturday to collect to 4.50 crore nett which has taken its second weekend business to 7.75 crore nett and its nine day total to 64.50 crore nett,” says Box Office India. The site goes on to state that it will continue its run until the release of Bharat on Eid ul Fitr. Bharat stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Sunil Grover. Bharat is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and is a remake of the Korean film An Ode to My Father.
At this point it also faces a challenge from Disney’s Aladdin which has earned 10 crores at the box office within two days of its release. Currently running at the box office are also PM Narendra Modi and India’s Most Wanted. Both films have underperformed at the box office and have not had the impact that the filmmakers had desired, despite the Lok Sabha Elections in the backdrop.
