To be on talk show super-host David Letterman’s show is honor enough. No Indian entertainer, not even Priyanka Chopra or Aamir Khan have conversed with the mighty Letterman on his seminal talk show. Shah Rukh Khan did, and it didn’t end there. For Eid, on Wednesday the legendary talk show host flew down to Mumbai as Shah Rukh Khan’s personal guest to witness firsthand the hysteria and frenzy that SRK whips up among his fans on festive occasions, namely Eid and his birthday.
A source very close to Shah Rukh informs, “When during the course of their conversation in the US Mr. Letterman showed curiosity about the fan frenzy Shah Rukh Khan commands back home in Mumbai, Shah Rukh suggested a day in India for the veteran talk show host (now in retirement and up only for some exclusive conversations for Netflix).” The source says Letterman spent several hours at Mannat, Shah Rukh’s residence in Mumbai, during which time he met Shah Rukh’s entire family of wife and three children.
A friend of Shah Rukh says, “SRK and David Letterman have a lot in common. They are curious articulate souls always hungry for knowledge. I think Shah Rukh provided the talk show host with a clearer sense of being an icon in India was all about.” Interestingly, it is Shah Rukh Khan who has never been in any American or non-Indian film should have attracted David Letterman’s attention on the basis of sheer numbers at the box-office and internet hits. Priyanka Chopra, for all her claim to international fame, would seem like a natural choice for this honor from India.
