Coronavirus in Bollywood: Celebrities Who Are Advocating Self-Isolation And Social Distancing
Bollywood celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Riteish Deshmukh among others have come forward and urged their fans to do the same! Here is what a few of them have to say
Amid the coronavirus outbreak worldwide, healthcare centres and experts cannot stress more on the need for “social distancing” and “self-isolation” at this point in time. While doctors and scientists across the globe stand united to fight against the infection and develop a cure, the figures of those affected by COVID-19 are increasing at an alarming rate in some places. Countries such as China – where the illness is said to have been originated from – have been able to contain the number of coronavirus-infected individuals now but others like Italy, Saudi Arabia, UAE, the United Kingdom and United States among others are still suffering to a large extent.
The next couple of weeks are being worded to be the most critical to quarantine oneself because they have the highest number of contagious unidentified people and non-infected vulnerable people in the general population right now and so, you never know who could be a carrier. If everyone works towards self-isolation and becomes a little selfless, the world will be able to combat COVID-19 faster and fewer people will be diagnosed every day. However, if you have been practicing social distancing, avoiding public gatherings and basically staying within the walls of your home, you can interact with those who have done the same after being physically cut off from the outside world for atleast 10 to 14 days. Bollywood celebrities have come forward and urged their fans to do the same! Here is what a few of them have to say:
1. Parineeti Chopra
The starlet took to Instagram and posted a slideshow of her thoughts. She started off with appreciating doctors, nurses and hospital staff who are risking their lives to save us while we have the “luxury” of staying at home. Comparing them to soldiers at war, Parineeti urged her fans to step up too. She wrote, “Guys, let’s be responsible. By socialising, partying and continuing life as it was, we are putting everyone at risk. Let’s learn from what has happened in other countries. Let’s stop now. We don’t want to regret later.” Pari captioned her post, “TWO THINGS ...” She insisted that while you may not be scared of the infection, you could be causing harm to those with weak immune or respiratory systems around you without knowing it.
2. Malaika Arora
The Bollywood beauty posted an image of herself on the photo-sharing platform. Clad in her night suit, she can be seen looking out of the window. This was Malaika’s way to telling her fan base to stay home and self-isolate themselves amid the coronavirus fear and the increasing numbers of cases being reported. She captioned the picture, “Love in the time of corona. #covid19#selfquarantine#caspernme… stay safe everyone. Thank you my Arhaan for the pic.”
3. Rhea Kapoor
The ace stylist recently shared an Instagram story of how she has decided to use her “quarantine” time to indulge in some healthy options and boost her immune system. Rhea shared a snap of her hot mug of Palak soup, suggested to her by Kareena Kapoor Khan. Replying to her, Kareena suggested Rhea to try the Dudhi soup as well. “Using the quarantine to get back to my fitness. Step 1: Palak soup #forlife inspiration,” she penned.
4. Priyanka Chopra
PeeCee first shared an image of a post by the Global Citizen organization, which read, “Here are the things you can do to right now to help stop COVID-19.” She captioned it, “We're all in this together. Let’s stay informed and do what we can to help stop the spread of #Covid19. Learn more with @GlblCtzn or visit the link in my bio.” Soon after, she uploaded a click of herself petting her dog while being at home. It was aptly captioned, “Staying home during this time is the safest thing to do.” We could not agree more!

I'm an outdoor person! Like everyone has asked, I am practicing self isolation. Never in my life, have I witnessed such tragic shocking times world wide. There is fear and panic everywhere! Will probably learn something out of this... Stay safe, stay sanitised and stay isolated!
A popular face in Indian cinema, this bubbly director and producer has been practicing self-isolation too. Taking to Instagram, she pleaded her fans to do the same. I'm an outdoor person! 6. Riteish Deshmukh
This is so so irresponsible. Let the Government/ Medical Authorities help you. By isolating yourself you can de-risk strangers, your friends, your loved ones & get the right treatment. We all are soldiers, we all have to and we will fight this together. #IndiaUnited #coronavirus https://t.co/4Opwxgk5g8— Riteish Deshmukh (@Riteishd) March 16, 2020
The actor was responding to the news of 11 coronavirus-inflicted suspects fleeing from a hospital in Mumbai. Sharing it on the micro-blogging site Twitter, Riteish wrote, “This is so irresponsible. Let the Government/ Medical Authorities help you. By isolating yourself you can de-risk strangers, your friends, your loved ones & get the right treatment. 7. Deepika Padukone
With work being halted all over the world, Deeps currently has a lot of time on her hands. While being off-duty, she has taken out the time to request her fans to practice self-isolation in this stressful time and to come up with different ways to keep themselves entertained. It seems like cleaning her wardrobe is Deepika’s way of quarantining herself. She posted a picture of her wardrobe staples on Instagram and wrote, “Productivity in the time of COVID-19! #cleaning #wardrobe.”
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has started a new campaign titled 'Safe Hands' challenge. In this challenge, they have requested celebrities and other public figures to share a video and demonstrate to people how to wash their hands properly and protect themselves from the virus. WHO director has nominated several celebrities across the world to take up the challenge. He tagged K-Pop band BTS, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and more. The tweet read, "I now nominate:@deepikapadukone@priyankachopra@Schwarzenegger@CTurlington to take the #SafeHands challenge by sharing their video & calling on at least another 3 people to join us!
